Hypnosis (derived from ancient Greek ὕπνος hıpnos, sleep ') is a condition of artificially created partial sleep (summarizing the physiological and psychological theory of hypnosis) in conjunction with an altered state of consciousness.

Hypnosis is the process of achieving a hypnotic trance (this form of trance is characterized by a deeply relaxed state of awakening, the particularity of which is extremely limited and attention-focused attention).

One speaks also of "hypnotic induction" or "hypnosis in the closer sense". the state of hypnotic trance. Medical hypnosis is also referred to as hypnosis or hypnosis.
