meditation

The word meditation comes from the Latin and means "think, meditate, consider". Meditation includes a variety of concentration and mindfulness exercises that are intended to calm the mind and allow thoughts to gather.

Various states of consciousness can be striven for here, depending on tradition, terms such as silence, inner calm, panorama awareness, being one with oneself, being in the here and now, are freed from thoughts.

A distinction is also made between physically passive meditation, which means that one practices it while sitting still and active meditation, which takes place during physical exercise. This includes being mindful or reciting loudly.
