Fasting fasting is understood to be a fasting that leads to a higher well-being or better health. Its supposed positive health properties are scientifically proven in rheumatism of the joints. In addition to some older forms of cure and fasting (see Pastor Kneipp), numerous physician-assisted forms of fasting with the desired "purifying" or "regeneration" of body and soul have become established in the 20th century.

What they all have in common is that they require a few days of preparation, a targeted defecation and daily drinking about three liters. Previous or accompanying medical examinations minimize potential risks, and the end of the fasting (formerly known as fast breakage) is carefully designed.
